Seven Ways To Wear Modern Boho

Modern Boho? Is that even a thing? I’m saying yes, it absolutely is. Think less tiered skirts, tassels, and those studded round leather belts that were big in the early noughties, and more “What would Claudia Schiffer wear these days?” She’s been my inspiration for this post — not just because of her timeless style, but also because she’s popped back into my consciousness lately. Her husband has just become an investor in Brentford FC, so maybe we’ll see some of Claudia’s on-the-terrace style emerging in the coming months too. Something to look forward to.

But for now, we’re leaning towards a more casual 70s vibe.

I was also inspired by the latest Étoile Isabel Marant collection, which I spotted on display at Liberty this week. It looked like the perfect segue from now into late summer and early autumn, and it got me thinking about more outfits we could put together in a similar vein. As always, I’ve included alternatives at a range of price points beneath the main collages.

So let’s dive in…

A BIT OF EMBROIDERY

This Marant top was the one that caught my eye. It’s the perfect lightly embroidered number for wearing with your cropped or flared jeans. But fear not if you can’t drop that kind of cash on a cotton top — this one from White Stuff and this one from M&S would do just as well.

  1. Isabel Marant Etoile Pelson embroidered woven blouse
  2. M&S Ombre Aviator Sunglasses
  3. Rixo Dionne Suede Jacket
  4. & Other Stories High-Waist Flared Jeans
  5. New Look Woven Mini Basket Crossbody Bag
  6. Summer Fridays Lip Butter Balm
  7. Boden Crochet Mary Jane Flats

THE LONG FLOWING DRESS

For cooler days right now, and later on in the year layered with a thermal vest, boots, and tights — a simple boho-style dress (without too many bells and whistles) is a year-round staple that really works across all seasons.

  1. Rixo Gold Chandelier Hoop earrings
  2. Free People Hermina Athens Baroque Pearl Necklace
  3. River Island Long Sleeve Smocked Maxi Dress
  4. Isabel Marant Etoile Briane maxi dress
  5. Monsoon Lana Raffia Clutch Bag
  6. H&M Rhinestone-embellished ballet flats

HOLIDAY STYLE

We’ve long established that this is one of my favourite summer holiday looks: a pretty white blouse, some denim cut-offs, simple flat sandals, and a basket bag.

  1. Zara Embroidered Lace Top
  2. Anthropologie Stone Aviator Sunglasses
  3. Anthropologie Charm Huggie Hoop Earrings
  4. Anya Hindmarch Monogram Straw basket bag
  5. Free People Dover Suede Belt
  6. Agolde Parker Vintage Cutoff  Denim Shorts
  7. Veittes Flat Slide Braided Sandals

CUTE T‑SHIRT AND PATCH POCKETS

The patch pockets on these trousers are a key ingredient in my recipe for modern boho style. I’m not even sure what it is about them that draws me in every time, but without fail, I’ll always do a double take when I spot a pair. They instantly add that subtle 70s vibe without feeling too retro, and they pair so well with everything from a tucked-in white blouse to a slouchy knit or a cropped jacket. Wear with slides and a cute printed tee in the summer, then swap in ankle boots and a chunky cardigan as we move into autumn.

  1. Rixo Zodiac T Shirt
  2. Sezane Claude Necklace
  3. Isabel Marant Altay suede shoulder bag
  4. Boden Primrose Patch Pocket Trousers
  5. B&sh Viciane Denim Jacket
  6. Boden Alberta Footbed Sandals

THE WHITE SUMMER DRESS

A white summer dress is the ultimate blank canvas — effortless, timeless, and always in style. For a modern boho feel, I would look for details like a bit of broderie anglaise, maybe a puffed sleeve, or even a subtle tiered skirt like this (unfussy) one from Albaray Style it with leather sandals, oversized sunglasses, and a bit of gold jewellery.

  1. Boden Oversized Square Sunglasses
  2. Rachel Jackson Rose Quartz Amulet Necklace
  3. Dôen Bardot Dress
  4. Albaray Tiered Volume Maxi Dress
  5. Zara Embroidered Fan Bag
  6. Amazon Essentials Strappy Sandals

GOOD LOOKING WIDE LEG JEANS

If I’m honest, I’d completely forgotten that Gap even still exists. I used to shop there all the time, but once their stores disappeared from the high street, they pretty much vanished from my memory too. That said, I used to have some great jeans from Gap — the kind you wear on repeat. And these ones look really good. Yes, it’s those patch pockets again… I just can’t resist them.

Two small brands to shout about in this set too. The green embroidered jacket is by Wardrobe 44, an independent store curated by former journalist Alex Gorton. She’s kindly given us a discount code to use as well: KATE15 for 15% off.

If you love designer bags but not the price tags, then check out Scott-Samuel for some great homages to a few of my favourite styles. Use code WEARS10 for a 10% discount.

  1. Boden Puff Sleeve Embroidery T‑shirt
  2. Wilson Jewellery Art Deco Chandelier Earrings
  3. Wardrobe 44 Embroidered Jacket
  4. Gap High Waisted Wide-Leg Jeans
  5. Scott Samuel Woven Leather Basket Bag
  6. Elizabeth Scarlett Coral Seahorse Pouch
  7. M&S Leather Strappy Flat Ballet Pumps

A TOUCH OF PATTERN

I think you could actually wear the same pattern waistcoat over your boho blouse. Or you could go with something plain but I like the idea of this little layering trick of the eye. Plus, it’s red and you know I can’t get through a whole blog post at the moment with including that colour.

  1. Monsoon Laurelie Floral Jersey Blouse
  2. Monsoon Felipa Floral Print Waistcoat
  3. Sezane Taylor Belt
  4. Free People Emerson Tote Bag
  5. Reiss Patch Pocket Flared Jeans
  6. Monsoon Long Mix Stone Bag Charm
  7. M&S Woven Ballet Pumps

So in conclusion — pull out your prettiest blouse, team it with some wide-leg jeans, and see if you can create your own take on modern boho this week.
